The grounds of Schloss Ludwigsburg include another palatial baroque building: Schloss Favorite, conceived as a hunting lodge for Duke Eberhard Ludwig. Perched on its knoll to the north, it also served as a viewing point. Located in the ducal hunting grounds, it was designed in 1715 by Donato Giuseppe Frisoni. Karl Eugen subsequently used it for some amusements and festive occasions. The little palace is set within a picturesque park landscape offering long and delightful walks. The Banqueting Hall Barely 100 years after its construction is a summer house and hunting lodge, Duke Friedrich II (later to become the future King Friedrich I) a Württemberg decided to update the interior of his baroque palace Schloss Favorite. Some of the rooms, designed by Nikolaus von Thouret in 1798, were decorated with French wallpapers in the neoclassical style inspired by antiquity, while others were painted in a style called the Pompeiian style, reflective of the recent discoveries of the Roman town that had been preserved on the volcanic ash. The large room in the center of the building was to convey a sense of ancient solemnity. A cool neoclassical air is maintained by the dominance of white and pale blue. Fluted ionic pilasters are crowned by a smooth entablature under a high attic. A flat coffered ceiling with stucco rosettes is replace the former baroque vaulting. In the niches over the four fireplaces statues of the four seasons in classical costume made by Johann Heinrich Dannecker and Philipp Jakob Scheffauer. A table set with china owned by King Friedrich recalls the rooms one time functions as a banqueting and dining room. Home |
